2019 Rugby World Cup In Japan, With StageHands.net

This month Stagehands.net had the opportunity to work at the 2019 Rugby World Cup taking place in Japan. We provided crews in Tokyo at the Ajinomoto Stadium and in Yokohama at the Nissan Stadium. At both of these locations we helped unload materials, setup lighting, staging, and sound for private box areas of the stadiums.

The Rugby World Cup has been held every four years with the very first tournament being held in 1987. Usually it is held in one of the main countries where Rugby is well known (Europe, The United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, among others) however, this will be the first time it will be held in Japan and Asia in general.

The opening match consisted of Japan playing against Russia, with Japan winning 30-10. Initially there are 20 teams that are split into four “pools” with five teams each. Within each pool each team will play one match against the others. At the end of this stage the top two teams of each pool will enter the “Knockout Stage” of the competition. The final match will take place on November 2nd at 18:00 JST at the International Stadium Yokohama.
