The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo

Next year the 2020 Summer Olympics will be taking place in Tokyo, Japan. This will be the 6th ever Olympic games held in Asia. Previously China and South Korea have also hosted the Olympic games. The 2020 Summer Olympics are expected to host 206 nations with over 11,000 participants. Japan is currently renovating The National Stadium in Tokyo in preparation for it to be their main event venue. Increasing its capacity from 60,000 to 80,000 people.

 

The Games

Next year several sporting events will take place for the first time in the Summer Olympics. Among them will be Karate, Sport Climbing, Surfing, and Skateboarding. In addition to these newcomers the official program includes 339 events in 33 sports, and 50 disciplines. As with each summer Olympics, the crowd favorites will also return. Including Gymnastics, Swimming and Track events.

 

The Athletes

From a very young age Athletes from around the world train to become Olympic gold medalists. With less than a year left until this next round of competitions these athletes are now kicking their training routines into high gear. A few of the upcoming favorites to watch include Caeleb Dressel (USA) competing in Swimming, Mariya Lasitskene (RUS) competing in Track and Field, Lois Toulson (GBR) competing in Diving, and Takeru Kitazono (JPN) competing in Gymnastics, among many others.
